Susan Watt, channelling my inner Elizabeth Zott (Lessons in Chemistry)

RTO District 11 Book Club

Welcome!
This wonderful book club was formed in the fall of 2021. We meet monthly on Thursday mornings, usually in person, however during winter months or for special guest author events, we meet virtually over zoom.
Each June, a book list for the next full year is created. Nominations are made by members and we hold a voting meeting to decide on books.
I (Susan Watt) have the privilege of hosting this book club. The picture to the left was taken at our meeting in June of 2024 at my place. The book choice was Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus - can you tell??

Our Members

Our club membership varies between 20 and 30. Not everyone is able to attend all meetings and this is ok! We understand that many retired folks have family, volunteer, work and other commitments that may conflict. We welcome you when you can come! Most of the time, we have about 10 to 15 people in attendance. We encourage attendees to have read the book of the month, however, we also welcome you if you haven't finished or even started, as long as you are interested in being part of the discussion and accept that there might be the odd 'spoiler'.
The fun picture to the right is once again from our Lessons in Chemistry meeting. Here we are modelling 60's style aprons, made by Trish! Never a dull meeting with this group!

We look forward to welcoming you at an upcoming meeting!

Here are a few meeting and event highlights from previous years...

Some of us heard Alka Joshi and Donna Alward at an author's event at Idea Exchange in Galt in May of 2025.

Susan was thrilled to find an authentic Pu'erh tea cake, just like the ones written about in Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane. (April 2025)

Our meeting in October of 2025 was held at The Yurt in downtown Kitchener. What a perfect setting for our book discussion about Valley of the Birdtail.

This book was a highlight of 2024/25. The authors spoke at the Stratford Meighan Forum in August and several of us were honoured to meet and speak with them there. Very inspiring!

Cutting into the densely packed tea cake was no easy feat!
