Basic iPad Navigation

Home Button - the indented round button on the bottom of the front face of the iPad
  • touching once wakes up the device; touching again will take you back to the home screen, you may have to ‘Swipe to Open’
  • two touches of the Home Button opens up the App Manager
  • touch and hold on the home button takes you to the Search Screen
  • use home button and reset button together to take a screen capture

RESET/Wake button - on the top right edge of the iPad
  • if the iPad is asleep, this button will wake it up - if the iPad is in deep sleep or hibernation mode, you hold the wake button for a few seconds til the Apple symbol appears on your screen

Other buttons / ports
  • on the bottom edge is the port for the charging and plugging in a data projector adapter
  • along the right edge is a volume switch and a toggle for lock rotation or mute
  • top left edge has a port for plugging in speakers or a microphone
  • there are 2 cameras - front and rear facing 
  • the built in microphone is on the front fact, top centre

Swiping
  • swipe right and left to move between screens
  • 4 finger swipe UP to see App Manager
  • 4 finger swipe sideways to move between open apps

Pinching

  • pinch to shrink, spread to zoom
  • pinch with 4 or 5 fingers to close an app and return to home screen

Search page
  • swipe all the way left or touch and hold on the Home button to get to a Search page
  • you only need to enter the first 2 or 3 letters of the app or item being searched - the whole iPad is searched, including documents, photos, etc.
